BSCO swimmer search ends, body of 16-year-old found
The search for 16-year-old Franklin "Eric" Clark ended Monday afternoon after his body was recorded from the waters off of Fripp Island.
At about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Clark was reported missing in the waters of the beach on Fripp Island in St. Helena. He was in the water with other swimmers and was allegedly caught in the undertow. All other swimmers were accounted for.
Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Coast Guard, S.C. Department of Natural Resources, Beaufort Marine Rescue and Fripp Island Security searched until it late Sunday. The search resumed Monday.
The Beaufort County Coroner's Office has scheduled a forensic autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina to confirm the cause of Clark's death, which based on witness accounts appears to have been an accidental drowning.
