BMW celebrates 4 millionth car made in state factory

GREER, S.C. — BMW is celebrating its 4 millionth vehicle made in South Carolina exactly 23 years after the first car rolled off the plant’s assembly line.

The German-based company marked the milestone Friday. The X3 will be shipped to a dealer in Vienna, Austria.

BMW also unveiled its Concept X7 iPerformance on Friday at the 67th International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany. The X7 is set to debut in 2018 and will be produced at the Spartanburg County plant.

BMW plans to invest an additional $600 million in the plant and add 1,000 jobs over the next three years, for a total workforce of 10,000.

Pedestrian killed crossing highway

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A 40-year-old South Carolina man has died while trying to cross a state highway.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kent Dill says a pickup struck Joel Jackson of Marietta as he crossed S.C. Highway 183 near Greenville about 5:45 a.m. Saturday.

Dill says Jackson died at the scene.

16-year-old dies in stabbing incident

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Authorities say a 16-year-old South Carolina teen was fatally stabbed after breaking in to a home.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says the apartment’s resident told investigators two people he didn’t know started banging on his door about noon Friday. The unidentified resident says he refused to open his door, armed himself with a knife and called 911. After he got off the phone, the two kicked in the door and he stabbed one of them in the chest. The county coroner says the 16-year-old was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
