Burton Fire District responds to fatal fire
The Burton Fire District responded to a house fire early Friday morning with three fatalities.
Shortly after 3: 30 a.m., Burton firefighters responded to a house fire on Chisholm Hill Road in Seabrook. Initial reports indicated two adults and two children may possibly be trapped inside.
Firefighters said they arrived to find a mobile home fully involved in fire and spreading to a vehicle parked out-front, and with large portions of the roof having already collapsed.
“Firefighters were unable to enter the home due to the intense heat-flames and the instability of the remaining structure, forcing them to battle the fire from the outside,” Lieutenant Daniel Byrne with the Burton Fire District said.
A lack of hydrants in the Seabrook area water supply was also an issue. The Sheldon Fire District, however, was able to respond with a water tanker to assist.
Beaufort Fire Department, Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services and Sheriff’s Office, also responded to the scene. The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes, however full extinguishment took over an hour.
Burton firefighters were able to locate three victims in the debris.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was called due to the fatalities and are investigating the fire.
